EU compliance & product safety

We sell from Lisbon into the European Union. Here is how our products are labelled, what safety rules apply, and the rights you have on every order.

Who you are buying from

Every order is sold and shipped by our shop in Alfama, Lisbon — a business established in the European Union.

To complete: Add your registered company name, NIF/VAT number and commercial registration number here — EU distance-selling rules require them on the website.

CE marking

CE marking applies to specific regulated product groups. Most of what we sell — hand-painted azulejos, cork goods, ceramics, linens and filigree jewellery — are decorative or textile items that fall outside the CE-marking regulations, so they neither carry nor require a CE mark.

Where a product does fall under a CE-marked category, the mark and the manufacturer's declaration of conformity are supplied with the item and listed below.

  • Decorative ceramics, tiles and cork. Outside the scope of CE marking. Sold as decorative homeware, not as toys or protective equipment.
  • Textiles and linens. Labelled with fibre composition in line with the EU textile labelling regulation.
  • Filigree jewellery. Assayed and hallmarked in Portugal; supplied with the workshop's metal declaration.

To complete: If any item you sell is CE-marked (for example electrical or toy products), list it here with its declaration of conformity before publishing.

Product safety and materials

Our pieces come from small Portuguese workshops. Materials and intended use are declared per category so you know exactly what you are receiving.

  • Azulejos and tiles. Fired ceramic with hand-painted glaze. Decorative wall use; not intended as food surfaces.
  • Ceramics and tableware. Glazed stoneware. Check the item page for whether a piece is food-safe.
  • Cork goods. Natural Portuguese cork, harvested without felling the tree. No synthetic coatings.
  • Linens and clothing. Natural fibres with washing instructions supplied on the label.
  • Small items. Magnets and small ceramics contain small parts — keep away from children under three.

To complete: Confirm with each workshop whether their glazes are certified food-safe, and whether any item is tested to the EU toy safety standard, then update the notes above with the real certification names.

Your EU consumer rights

As a customer buying at a distance within the EU you have a statutory right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason. You also have a two-year legal guarantee of conformity: if an item is faulty or not as described, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.

Handmade items vary slightly from piece to piece. Small differences in colour, glaze or grain are a feature of the craft, not a defect.

Returns policy

Our returns policy mirrors those rights: you can request a return within 14 days of delivery. Contact us first so we can confirm the return address.

  • Items must be unused and in their original packaging.
  • Made-to-order and personalised pieces cannot be returned.
  • Return shipping is paid by the customer unless the item arrived damaged or incorrect.

If something arrives damaged or incorrect, send us a photo of the item and the packaging within 3 days of delivery and we will arrange a replacement or a full refund including shipping. Refunds are issued to the original payment method once the return arrives at the shop.

Complaints and dispute resolution

Talk to us first — call or message +351 920 047 834, or use the contact page. If we cannot resolve a complaint, EU customers may refer the dispute to the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr, or to the Portuguese consumer arbitration centre for your region.

To complete: Add the name and address of the arbitration centre your shop is registered with — Portuguese law requires it to be named on the website.
